Accounts
How do I get an account?
You need an invitation. LibreTimes is invite-only while it is in early access, and there is no open registration form. If you have an invitation link, see Create an account.
Can I sign in with Google or my university account?
No. A LibreTimes password is the only way in.
Can I change my handle?
Yes, from your profile settings, once a year. Links to your old address redirect to the new one, so existing links to your work keep working. See Handles and display names.
I forgot my password.
Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. A reset link goes to your registered email address.
How do I delete my account?
Contact us from the address on the account. Self-service deletion is not built yet, so this is handled by hand at the moment.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Contact us and ask. There is no export button yet, so we put it together manually.
Publishing
What can I write in?
Markdown, with mathematics, code, tables, diagrams, figures, and attachments. The Markdown reference covers everything available.
Can I edit a publication after publishing it?
Yes, as often as you like, and it keeps the same address. There is no version history yet, so readers see the current text and cannot compare it against earlier versions.
Can I publish a thesis or a preprint here?
Not yet. Those are citable records that should not change once published, and everything on LibreTimes is editable by design. They are planned for LibreJournal – see what is planned.
What is the difference between tags and categories?
Categories come from a fixed academic taxonomy and are how people browsing a field find you. Tags are free text for specifics a category cannot express. Use both.
How do I make something private?
Set its visibility to Private while creating or editing it. By link is the middle option: reachable by anyone with the address, but not listed on your profile or in search.
How big can an attachment be?
100 MB per file, any format. For larger datasets, use a repository built for them – Zenodo, Dryad, OSF – and link to it.
Finding things
Why is my publication not showing up in search?
Give indexing a moment after publishing. After that, check that the publication is public rather than private or by-link, and that you gave it categories and tags – untagged work is much harder to find.
My mathematics is not rendering.
Check the delimiters: $...$ for inline, $$...$$ for display. Use the
preview tab before publishing. See Mathematics.
Privacy
Who can see my profile?
Each CV section has its own visibility, from public through to only-you. A section you are not allowed to see is not shown as locked – it is simply absent. See Your profile.
Is there a profile for me that I did not create?
Possibly. Profiles exist for authors whose work was matched from external databases, including people who never signed up. If one describes you, you can claim it rather than creating a second. Contact us if it does not offer to let you.
