Signing in and account security

Signing in

Use Sign in, then enter either your handle or your email address, plus your password. Both name the same account.

There is no sign-in with Google, GitHub, or an institutional account. A LibreTimes password is the only way in.

If you forget your password

Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. A reset link goes to your registered email address. The link is single-use and expires, so request a fresh one rather than reusing an old email.

If the reset email does not arrive, check your spam folder first, then confirm you are using the address you registered with. If neither helps, contact us.

Changing your password

Password changes happen in your account settings. You will be asked for your current password before you can set a new one.

Changing your password signs you out everywhere else. That is deliberate – if you are changing it because you think someone else has it, you want their session gone too.

Two-factor authentication

You can add a second step to sign-in using an authenticator app such as Aegis, Authy, or Google Authenticator. Set it up from your account settings.

Save your recovery codes when they are shown to you. They are the only way back into your account if you lose the device with your authenticator on it. Store them somewhere other than that device.

Sessions

You stay signed in across visits, and across tabs, without re-entering your password. A session ends when you sign out, when it has been idle long enough to expire, or when you end it deliberately.

Your account settings list your active sessions, with the device and rough location for each. If you see one you do not recognise, end it and change your password.

Sign out everywhere ends every session at once, including the one you are using. Use it if you have signed in on a shared or borrowed machine and are not sure you signed out.

On a shared computer

Use a private or incognito window, and sign out when you finish. Do not save the password in a browser that other people use.

Troubleshooting

Signed out sooner than expected. Sessions expire after a period of inactivity. If it happens while you are actively working, check that your browser is not clearing cookies for the site – some privacy extensions do this aggressively – and that your device clock is correct, since sign-in depends on accurate time.

Cannot sign in. Confirm you are using the right handle or email, and that caps lock is off. Handles are always lowercase. If you registered recently, check whether you still need to confirm your email address.

Stuck in a sign-in loop. Clear cookies for the site and try again. If it continues, contact us and say which browser you are using.

Losing access

If you lose both your password and your two-factor device, contact us from the email address on the account. Expect to be asked to prove the account is yours – an account that anyone can recover by asking is not secure.
